In addition to managing the Farm, you can also do various other activities in Harvest Moon: Back to Nature, such as spending your free time fishing or mining to obtain Ore.

There are two mines in the game. The first is the Waterfall Mine, which can be accessed throughout the year.

You can dig there to obtain Iron Ore. This Ore is also a primary material for upgrading tools.

The other mine is the Winter Mine. This mine can be accessed during Winter when the lake freezes.

You can dig there to find rare Ore that has a higher selling price than items from the Waterfall Mine.

Ore from the Winter Mine is also used as the main material for making the Cheese Maker, Yarn Ball Maker, and jewelry.

Waterfall Mine

The Waterfall Mine is one of the two mines in the game, while the other is the Winter Mine.

This mine is located south of the player’s Farm, next to the Hot Springs.

Time is paused while inside the mine. There are 10 randomly generated floors. Each floor can be traversed by finding hidden staircases using the Hoe.

Staircases never appear on the outermost tiles, and the hidden staircase will be located in the area diagonally opposite the staircase you just descended.

To exit, climb the staircase on the current floor. Exiting will automatically take you outside the mine.

In addition to the items listed below, there is also a Power Berry hidden randomly.

Winter Mine

The Winter Mine is located at the base of Mother’s Hill, on a small island in the middle of the lake, and can only be accessed when the lake freezes during Winter.

Time is paused while inside the mine. There are 10 floors with caves connected to the lower floors. Inside is an underground lake where one of the legendary fish, Catfish, can be caught.

The randomly generated floors can be traversed by finding hidden staircases using the Hoe.

Staircases never appear on the outermost tiles, and the hidden staircase will be located in the area diagonally opposite the staircase you just descended.

Two Power Berries can be found here. One is located outside the mine, hidden behind the entrance.

The other Power Berry can be randomly dug up on one of the 10 floors. The Ketchup cooking recipe can also be randomly dug up in the Winter Mine.
