On the morning of Spring 17, Mayor Thomas will visit your house to invite you to the Spring Derby Festival, which takes place the following day.
If you own an adult horse, Thomas will offer you the opportunity to enter it in the race. If you agree, your horse will be taken temporarily and returned after the festival concludes.
The festival is held at Rose Plaza from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Speaking with the villagers in attendance grants +5 FP with each character.
Throughout the festival, there are three races that you can either watch or participate in. Speak with Mayor Thomas to start a race, purchase betting tickets, or exchange medals for prizes.
Betting System
Before each race begins, you can purchase betting tickets for 100 G each. Every horse has an odds multiplier that determines how many medals you will receive if your bet wins.
The lower a horse’s odds, the more likely it is to win the race. For example:
- Horse #1 has odds of 5x.
- Horse #2 has odds of 26x.
Under normal circumstances, Horse #1 has a much better chance of winning than Horse #2, although race outcomes are never completely guaranteed.
If the horse you bet on wins, the number of medals you receive is calculated as:
Number of Tickets × Horse Odds
Example:
- Purchase 10 tickets on a horse with 5x odds.
- If that horse wins, you will receive 50 medals.
You may buy as many tickets as you want and can even place bets on multiple horses.
Racing Your Own Horse
If you register your own horse, it will participate in the third race. You may also place bets on your own horse.
During the race, a stamina indicator will appear above your horse. Repeatedly press the Action Button (PC: Click) to increase its speed. However, excessive stamina usage will cause the indicator to change from green to yellow, and eventually red.
The best strategy is to stop pressing the button when stamina is nearly depleted, allow it to recover briefly, and then urge the horse forward again. Managing stamina efficiently is the key to winning the race.
Winning the race with your own horse grants:
- An additional +20 FP with all villagers attending the festival.
- A Power Berry as the grand prize for your first Derby victory.
Medal Exchange Rewards
After the third race ends, you can exchange medals for various prizes. Any unused medals are saved and can be used during future Derby Festivals.
| Item | Medals |
|---|---|
| Truth Jewel | 1,000 |
| Power Berry | 900 |
| Dress | 250 |
| Perfume | 150 |
| Facemask | 42 |
| Skin Lotion | 35 |
| Sunblock | 30 |
| Necklace | 20 |
| Brooch | 18 |
| Diamond | 14 |
| Matsutake | 10 |
| Adamantite | 4 |
The Truth Jewel and Power Berry can only be exchanged once. After obtaining both items, Dress and Perfume become available in the reward list.
Since most rewards can be sold for profit, the Derby Festival is also one of the best ways to earn large amounts of money.
Tips
- The Derby is one of the most profitable festivals for obtaining a Power Berry and a Truth Jewel.
- Save money before the festival so you can purchase a large number of betting tickets.
- Prioritize obtaining the Truth Jewel and Power Berry before exchanging medals for other rewards.
- If your goal is profit, the Brooch usually offers one of the best medal-to-selling-price ratios.
- Unused medals carry over to future Derby Festivals, so there is no need to spend them all at once.
- Winning with your own horse grants bonus FP and a Power Berry, making it highly worthwhile to raise your horse to adulthood before the festival.
- At 6:00 PM, leave Rose Plaza to return home with your horse and officially conclude the festival.
