Building relationships with villagers and marriage candidates is one of the most important aspects of Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town.
Relationships are based on your interactions with Villagers, Nature Sprites, and Animals. The game uses two parameters to measure these relationships.
Friendship Points
Friendship Points (FP) represent your friendship level with villagers. Every character has a friendship value that can be increased.
Your friendship level is displayed as music note icons next to the character’s portrait in the Villager Relationship menu.
Each music note represents 25 FP. A total of 10 music notes represents 250 FP, with a maximum of 255 FP for each character.
Love Points
Love Points (LP) represent affection or romantic love. This value is displayed as heart icons below the music notes in the Villager Relationship menu.
Every marriage candidate has LP, although some characters have hidden heart values to add an extra challenge to building a relationship.
Each colored heart icon represents 10,000 LP, with a maximum of 65,535 LP for each marriage candidate.
Livestock and pets also have LP, which is displayed in the Livestock Relationship or Pet Relationship menu.
Each heart icon for animals is worth 25 LP, with a maximum of 255 LP for each animal.
FP and LP can be increased through various activities, such as talking, giving gifts, participating in festivals, and triggering certain events.
Talking
Talking to a villager grants +1 FP and, if applicable, +200 LP. Kai is an exception—talking to him grants +2 FP and +200 LP.
Giving Gifts
Giving gifts is one of the easiest ways to improve relationships. Each character’s preferred gifts can be found in the Villagers guide.
For marriage candidates, gifts increase both FP and LP. For non-marriage candidates, gifts increase FP only.
| Gift Type | LP | FP |
|---|---|---|
| Special Gift (marriage candidate) | +800 | +9 |
| Favorite Gift | +500 | +9 |
| Liked Gift | +300 | +3 |
| Neutral Gift | +100 | +1 |
Giving a gift on a character’s birthday multiplies all relationship points gained by 5.
For example, giving a Favorite Gift to a marriage candidate on their birthday grants +2,500 LP and +45 FP.
Wrapping Paper
Wrapping a gift with Wrapping Paper increases the FP and LP gained from that gift by 25%.
Wrapping Paper is sold at the General Store. Stand on the right side of the cashier’s counter, next to the wrapped gift display, then press the A button. Each wrapped gift costs 100 G.
Festivals
Participating in festivals is another way to improve relationships with villagers. Festivals are marked on the calendar and announced through the TV news channel.
In competition festivals, you generally receive +5 FP with every villager attending the event, plus an additional +20 FP if you win the competition.
Romantic festivals can grant either +1,000 LP or +2,000 LP, depending on the festival. Competition festivals do not award LP, while romantic festivals may also grant FP.
Events
Romantic Heart Events and certain villager events can also improve relationships.
During a Heart Event, choosing the positive dialogue option grants +2,000 LP. Some Random Events also award additional FP, although not every event increases relationship points.
Livestock and Pets
Affection for livestock and pets can be increased by interacting with them, brushing them, and letting them stay outside for 5 hours.
For pets, Pet Treats can also be used to increase affection.
Ideally, you will want to increase FP and LP, but certain actions can cause your relationship with villagers or marriage candidates to decrease.
Only Rival Events require a low friendship or love level to be triggered. However, most Rival Events can already be triggered at the beginning of the game.
| Cause of Point Loss | Effect |
|---|---|
| Giving a disliked gift | -3 FP / -500 LP |
| Giving a hated gift | -9 FP / -800 LP |
| Giving a disliked or hated gift on a birthday | The penalty is increased. |
| Not talking to a villager | 10% chance each day to lose -1 FP and -200 LP. This does not apply to Kai while he is away from town, but it does apply during Summer when he is in Mineral Town. |
| Choosing a negative response during a Heart Event or Random Event | Usually -10 FP and/or -2,000 LP. |
Relationship points lost from disliked gifts or negative dialogue choices can be recovered by giving an appropriate gift on the following day.
Some locations in Mineral Town are initially inaccessible and can only be entered after meeting certain requirements. In most cases, these requirements involve increasing your Friendship Points (FP) with the relevant villager.
