In addition to owning a dog, you can also have up to 10 types of pets. You can keep a maximum of 5 pets at the same time. All pets can be purchased from the Van Pet Shop.
There are two requirements to unlock the Pet Shop:
- Unlock access to Van. Van will come to Mineral Town after you offer 30 gifts to the Harvest Goddess, with one offering counted per day. On a sunny Wednesday, Van will visit your house to introduce himself.
- Wait until the 15th. Van will open the Pet Shop in Rose Plaza from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The Pet Shop only opens in sunny weather. If it rains or snows on the 15th, the shop will not operate.
In Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, pets can participate in the Fetch Fest on Summer 1.
Unlike other Story of Seasons games, the Nintendo Switch remake does not have stray dogs, and pets cannot help herd livestock.
Mechanically, all pets serve the same function and only differ in appearance.
General Information
There are ten types of pets you can purchase from Van. Purchased pets cannot be sold back to Van and will never die.
You can also only own one pet of each type. For example, you cannot own two White Capybaras, but you can keep a Capybara and a White Capybara at the same time.
The types of pets sold by Van depend on the season. Van sells cats during Spring, penguins during Summer, dogs during Autumn, and Capybaras during Winter.
If you want a specific pet, you may need to wait until the appropriate season for it to become available in his shop.
All pets are babies when purchased and will grow into adults after 60 days.
Pets will stay inside your house. On sunny days, they will go outside on their own and roam around the farmland.
Pets will return to the house around 8:00 PM. During rainy weather, they will remain indoors throughout the day.
You do not need to feed your pets, and you cannot take them outside the farmland area.

Increasing Pet Affection
The Relationship menu displays the friendship level of each pet. Each pet can have a maximum of 10 friendship hearts, equivalent to 250 Love Points (LP).
Love Points can be increased through the following methods:

Although the Brush can be used on pets, it does not increase Love Points.
Buying New Pets
Van will only sell your next pet once you have built a sufficiently strong relationship with your current pets.
- 2nd Pet: The first pet must have at least 8 hearts (200 LP).
- 3rd Pet: The first two pets must have a combined total of at least 16 hearts.
- 4th Pet: The first three pets must have a combined total of at least 24 hearts.
- 5th Pet: The first four pets must have a combined total of at least 32 hearts.
It takes several seasons to reach 200 LP (8 hearts), which is the requirement for Van to consider you a responsible pet owner.
Your eligibility to purchase the next pet can be checked through the Farm Profile menu. If the five pet icons on the right side of the screen, above the farm level, are still dark green, the requirement has not yet been met.
You can purchase the next pet once the icons turn light green again.
Playing with Pets
In addition to friendship levels, each pet also has a green Frisbee skill bar displayed below its profile in the Relationship menu.
This bar increases as the pet improves its fetching skill. There are two ways to increase it.
Huang begins selling the Pet Ball for 100 G in Autumn of the first year. The ball can be thrown while standing near a pet, either on the farmland or inside the house. The pet will then chase after the ball and return it.
Pets can play with the ball as many times as desired, but only the first throw of each day counts toward increasing the Frisbee skill bar.
This activity can be performed with both baby and adult pets.
Frisbee can only be played with adult pets. Huang begins selling the Pet Frisbee for 5,000 G in Autumn of the first year.
Keep the Frisbee in your Rucksack, then go to the sign next to the bench at Mineral Beach.
Press the Action button while standing near the sign, then select the pet you want to play with. All pets can play Frisbee during Spring, Summer, and Autumn.
Game Rules
A power bar appears on the left side of the screen. The green area indicates the throwing distance that the pet can still reach, while the power indicator moves up and down along the power bar.
Press the Click button when the indicator is inside the green area to make the pet chase and catch the Frisbee.
You can still throw the Frisbee farther by pressing the button outside the green area, but the pet’s chance of catching it will decrease.
Training Fetch
At first, the green area on the power bar is very small, so the pet can only catch the Frisbee at a distance of approximately 10 meters.
The more successful catches the pet makes, the larger the green area becomes, allowing you to throw the Frisbee farther. The longest throwing distance will be displayed in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Number of Games
The number of times you can play Frisbee depends on the pet’s friendship level.

Hidden Items
Once the requirements are met, the pet will occasionally stop running and begin digging in the sand.

Not every attempt will produce an item, but pets can find Agate, Gold Ore, Silver Ore, Copper Ore, trash, or Ancient Fossils. Make sure you have an empty slot in your Rucksack so you can carry any items you find.
The Frisbee can be stored in the cabinet at home when not in use, but it must be in your Rucksack to play this game at Mineral Beach.
Horse
In addition to pets, the Horse is another animal that can assist you during the game.
