After learning how to make hybrid crops in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, there is another, more advanced stage of crop breeding: Generation 3 “rare crops.”
With a total of 47 rare crops in SoS AWL, finding the correct recipe for each one can be difficult.
However, don’t worry. In this guide, we have listed the Generation 3 hybrid crop recipes and will also explain how to make them.
About Generation 3 Hybrid Crops
In Year 2, you are introduced to Vinnie, the three-headed plant that lives in Takakura’s house. After befriending him, you can create Generation 2 crops.
Although these crops sell for a fairly high price, you can take things a step further by breeding hybrid crops together.
If done correctly, this process will produce a Generation 3 crop, commonly referred to as a “rare crop.”
After finding the correct combination, you will see a short animation of Vinnie eating the seeds to determine whether the crops you provided are the correct combination.
Vinnie will then tell you that he has created something rare. You will also see an image of the fully grown crop so you can see what each rare crop looks like when harvested.
The names of Generation 3 crops in SoS AWL are entirely up to you, with up to eight characters available for naming each rare crop you create.
There are 47 rare crops in total, each with a different seed genetic combination. As you might expect, these crops are some of the most valuable items you can sell.
Understanding Rare Crop Genetics
There is a little mathematics and science behind it, but rare crops follow the same formula regardless of the specific crop you are growing.
Just as a Generation 2 hybrid contains the genetics of two base crops (such as Tomato and Turnip combined to produce Turnmato), Generation 3 crops work in the same way.
You can now develop a new crop by combining two hybrid crops.
Generation 2 hybrids contain the genetics of two base crops, while the next generation contains more genetic combinations.
It works like this:
- 2 base crops = 1 hybrid crop
- 2 hybrid crops combined = 1 rare crop
This means every rare crop inherits four base crop genetics.
Still unclear?
Let me explain it as simply as possible. For example, Rare Crop 20 is created by crossing MeloMelo + Carberry.
MeloMelo has the genetics of Melon + Watermelon, while Carberry has the genetics of Carrot + Strawberry.
When these two crops are combined, they create a rare crop containing the genetics of all four base crops.
This is how Generation 3 crops are created.
Crop Combination Recipes
This may seem confusing, but once you try it yourself, you will quickly understand how it works.
Because there are many combinations for creating rare crops, make sure you have the correct fruits or vegetables ready according to the recipes.
Rare crops are numbered in the table below. These numbers correspond to the numbers in their default names. For example, crop number 8 is named “Rare Crop 8.”
Generation 3 Rare Crops
By default, Rare Crop 10 is not listed in the game. Because we follow the cooking recipe list, we skip RC.10.
Pay attention to the “Crop 1” and “Crop 2” columns in the table. You need to prepare the required crops to create each new type.
We use the default Rare Crop names and abbreviate them as R.C.

Info: R.C. 24 and R.C. 25 are created using the same parent crops, but the difference between them depends on the time Vinnie creates the seed.
Asking Vinnie to cross the combination between 6 AM and 5:59 PM will produce Rare Crop 24, while using the same parent crops between 6 PM and 5:59 AM will produce Rare Crop 25.
