As a farming simulation game, farming activities would feel incomplete without raising livestock.
In SoS AWL, there are five types of livestock that you can raise in the Barn and Coop: Cows, Sheep, Goats, Chickens, and Ducks.
Each type of livestock produces different products that you can sell, give as gifts, consume directly, or use as ingredients in cooking recipes.
This guide aims to help you understand everything you need to know about livestock, from Cows to how to obtain Ducks, including how to care for, purchase, and breed them.
Barn: Cows, Sheep, Goats
The Barn is one of the largest buildings on your Farm. This is where livestock such as Cows, Sheep, and Goats live.
Inside, each animal has its own feed trough that you must fill every day to keep them well-fed and happy.
The Barn can hold up to eight animals. You can upgrade the building through the Ledger for 120,000 G to increase its capacity to 16 animals.
Animals in the Barn eat Fodder, which can be purchased through the Ledger. You can also produce Fodder yourself by planting grass using fertilizer in the pasture, then cutting it with a Sickle.
The cut grass will automatically be turned into Fodder and stored in the Barn’s silo.
At the back of the Barn, there is a bell that can be used to let the animals out into the pasture.
If there is enough grass available there, you do not need to give the animals Fodder while they are grazing outside.
However, make sure to bring the animals back into the Barn when the weather is bad. Leaving animals outside in poor weather conditions can lower their happiness levels.
If an animal’s happiness decreases, the quality of the products it produces may also decrease.
Unlike poultry, livestock require a little more care to increase their affection and obtain high-quality milk or wool.
To begin with, you can talk to the animals and hug them regularly to keep them in a good mood.
In addition, you are also advised to purchase a Brush from Van’s shop. Livestock will enjoy being brushed regularly, which can help increase their affection toward you.
When it comes to collecting animal products, each type of animal has a slightly different method.
Cows and Goats need to be milked using a Milker, which you receive for free when you first arrive in Forgotten Valley.
Each day, animals will produce several bottles of milk, with the product quality being able to improve over time.
The most important thing is to keep the animals happy so that you can continue obtaining high-quality products.
Meanwhile, Sheep need to be sheared using a Clipper. Simply approach a Sheep with the Clipper in your hand, then use the action button to shear its wool.
Sheep can produce wool with different colors and qualities depending on their heart levels. Therefore, make sure to keep your Sheep happy so that you can obtain the best wool.
At the beginning of the game, you will only receive one Normal Cow (female). In addition, you can purchase three other types of Cows through the Ledger: Brown, Marble, and Star Cows.
Brown Cows and Marble Cows produce special types of milk that are better suited for processing into cheese and butter in the Processing Room.
Meanwhile, Star Cows produce Star Milk, a type of milk with a higher selling value than other types of milk.
There is also Goat Milk, which is produced by Female Goats for one year after reaching adulthood.
Make sure to pay attention to the type of milk you have before using it, whether you want to process it into cheese or butter, sell it directly, use it as a cooking ingredient, or give it as a gift.
There are two ways to breed livestock in SoS AWL. The first and most important thing is to make sure there is space in the Barn for the new animal.
If an animal is already pregnant and occupies the last slot in the Barn, you cannot breed another animal until you upgrade the Barn.
If you have a male and female animal of the same type, they can breed naturally.
You will know that an animal is pregnant when you talk to it or check its status on the blackboard.
Alternatively, you can also order breeding for female animals through the Ledger.
You must pay a breeding fee using another person’s animal, then wait to find out whether the pregnancy is successful.
As the time for giving birth approaches, you can see the signs. An animal that is about to give birth will have flushed cheeks.
At that point, you must isolate the animal in the fenced area inside the Barn.
If you take too long to do this manually, the Harvest Sprite will call you and remind you to pay attention to the pregnant animal.
Once isolated, the animal will give birth in a few days. The mother’s feed trough will be moved into the enclosure with her, so make sure to keep filling it.
When the baby is born, you will be called back to the Farm to meet it and give it a name.
A Cow that has just given birth will produce Mother’s Milk for several days.
The milk must be manually given to the calf to help it grow. After a few days, the calf will grow into an adult animal and live on the Farm as usual.
After that, the mother Cow will produce higher-quality milk for some time, usually at S quality.
This is a good way to obtain high-quality milk, so plan your breeding schedule carefully.
You may have wondered how to deal with an animal that can no longer produce milk. The solution is to sell the animal.
In SoS AWL, Goats will stop producing milk after a certain period of time. You can sell the Goat to free up a slot in the Barn and fill it with a new animal.
This allows the flow of income from the Farm to continue as normal.
The selling price of an animal depends on its type and age. If you agree to the offered price, Takakura will take the animal away the following day to be sold outside the town.
Animals are usually sold for around half of their purchase price.
Coop: Chickens and Ducks
When you first start the game, the Coop can hold up to eight birds. There is no limit to the number of Chickens or Ducks, or their gender, as long as the total number does not exceed eight.
Birds in the Coop must be fed Birdseed, which can be purchased through the Ledger for 100 G per bag. Both Chickens and Ducks eat the same food, so one type of food can be used for both types of birds.
Once the Birdseed arrives, enter the Coop and spread the food into the feed trough.
After filling it for the first time, make sure to refill the feed trough regularly to keep the birds well-fed and happy.
Taking care of Chickens and Ducks is fairly easy. You only need to pick up the bird to talk to or hug it.
Over time, this will increase their affection.
The bell outside the Coop can be rung to call all the birds outside at the same time.
If the Coop starts to feel too cramped, you can upgrade it through the Ledger for 100,000 G. This upgrade will double the building’s capacity, allowing you to keep up to 16 birds.
Once Chickens reach adulthood, Female Chickens will begin laying eggs around the Farm.
If you keep Chickens inside the Coop, you will most likely find an egg directly underneath a Chicken.
You can check by picking up the Chicken and seeing if there is an egg underneath it.
If there is no egg, your Chicken may have laid one outside around the Farm.
If you let the Chickens roam outside, you will find eggs on the ground when bringing them back or calling them back into the Coop.
You can also call all the Chickens back into the Coop to make it easier to find the eggs.
However, Chickens can sometimes be in the fenced area with the livestock, so make sure to check the entire Farm area if there are still eggs that have not been found.
If you have at least one male and one female bird of the same type, you have a chance of obtaining a Fertilized Egg.
This egg is pink and sells for slightly more than a regular egg.
If there is still an empty space in the Coop, you can place the Fertilized Egg in the Incubator. After a few days, the egg will hatch into a new baby bird.
You will be called to the Coop to meet the new bird, find out its gender, and give it a name.
After a few days, the baby bird will grow into an adult like other birds. If it is female, it can eventually begin laying eggs.
You can repeat this process as many times as you want to increase your Chicken or Duck population. However, you cannot hatch a new bird if the Coop is full.
List of Animals You Can Buy
In Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, buying new livestock is fairly easy. You only need to order them through the Ledger located in front of the house.
The Ledger offers several livestock options, such as various types of Cows, Chickens, and Sheep, both male and female.
Pay attention to the animal’s gender when ordering new livestock, especially if you plan to breed them.

Animals ordered through the Ledger will arrive the following day. If you are not around the Farm when the order arrives, you will be called back to the Farm to welcome the animal, give it a name, and choose where to place its feed trough.
How to Get Ducks
Of course, there are several other animals in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, including Goats and Ducks.
They will live in the Farm buildings like other animals, but the way to obtain them is different.
Ducks will arrive after you purchase a Pond through the Ledger for 10,000 G. Takakura will build it on the Farm, specifically inside the fenced area, and will let you know when the construction is complete.
Usually in Summer of Year 2, as long as there are at least two empty spaces in the Coop, your spouse will call you to show you two Ducks they found, one male and one female.
You can then give them names, and they will be placed in the Coop.
